Maud Dahme was born into a Jewish family in Amersfoort, Netherlands, in 1936. When Germany ordered all Jews to vacate their homes and get to the train stations, Dahme and her sister, Rita, were told they were going on vacation. The girls were woken up at 3:00 a.m., told to not wear their stars on their coats, and walked with their parents to the next town. They were delivered to a farm where th...

Is Patton sporting a shoulder holster?
We had the honor of meeting and speaking with Steve at the museum today. Could have listened to him for hours. Thank you again for your service.
There were two leaders that had an influence on one of my favorite commanders during my active duty service, whom I have always admired. Those two historical figures were Erwin Rommel and George Patton. He even had Patton's speech from the film posted on our company bulletin boards. I remember seeing this film in the time when it came out. Being a lad of 10 years old, I was instantly a fan of the portrayal of Patton by George C. Scott. I too was influenced to read "War as I knew it" written by Patton himself a few years later. I know now that there are some controversial scenes in the film that portrayed the British and, Montgomery specifically in a more negative light than was probably true. Overall though the scenes were in keeping with what we know General Patton felt, or how he viewed things at the time. Viewing the film today still evokes the man, the myth and the legend that was Patton. He is a type of leader that many soldiers will follow because he is a charismatic one, with luck and the penchant for winning, while bitching the whole time about him too, for that is the prerogative of all soldiers. Patton fully understood that as well, for he bitched about his superiors also.
Wow! Never realised just how hated the British were by some Americans - the constant anti-British / anti-Montgomery sniping here is tiresome, unoriginal, and not very academic. A subjective assessment would be good here but instead it just makes the speaker sound bitter and dumb. Sorry, but if ever there was an example of just serving an American audiences, with a twisted interpretation, this is it. Sorry to say, but this is the worst. low level simplistic speech I have heard from a so-called expert on this channel and not up to the usual quality of the museum guest speakers that I usually enjoy. If you believe this stuff, more fool you. Does he not realise that the Americans usually won battles based on overall superior manpower and more importantly vastly superior armour and artillery? The Germans, especially the ones the British faced in the early war years were formidable but they had far superior tanks, just as the Americans (by his own admittance) found here - 50 out of 54 Shermans lost So Montgomery, keen to preserve British life following the horrors of WW1 was a cautious commander but this assessment of his abilities is just shallow and lacking any real insight. Meanwhile, the hero-worshipped Patton just sent his troops to their death in hundreds and thousands. Who is the best Commander? BTW I bet this speaker doesn't do a similar comparison report on Normandy as he did with El Alamein and show where elite German Panzer Divisions were sent (:-. Or will he highlight American superiority in numbers (and certainly in equipment) at the Battle of the Bulge? The Germans committed over 410,000 men, against 700,000 Allied (nearly all American troops). Similarities to El Alamein perhaps? Similar conclusions would he make about the Americans? Not in a million years!
Whats up with the farts? Lol
Owe you a debt...you cleaned up your own mess as a generation.
I'll go for the low hanging fruit. Adm. Nimitz and Gen Eisenhower were the same kind of commander. Switch the ETO & PTO and probably the same outcome.
The air war in Europe, from the US point of view!

Very good talks but someone please restrict the camera operator's caffeine intake, moving forward.
IT is a pity the AppleTV involvement destroyed any chance that the material got turned into a good series.

как же людей манят убогие страны и убогие режимы. демократия скучна?
Great presentation.
We say that about Vietnam
Very informative presentation!! I would love to hear the same analysis of the Marine Corps before and during WWII.
My father was from Pennsylvania and was in the 504th Regiment 82nd during WW2. He was quiet and never talked about it but would always watch the WW2 documentaries. I used to tell him it's over and he would chuckle and say no it's not over.
Fascinating. Drop tanks need an episode of their own.
May we Never Forget the atrocities committed on the Jewish community and on mankind. May God forgive us for what was allowed.
25:28 Matt great job 41:42 🙏❤️
From 5:05-5:43 is a question that I have wondered about. How can Japan be so naive to think that, after the Pearl Harbor attack, the USA would, in any condition, agree to a negotiated peace. How could they so badly misread the American people and not appreciate the rage Americans felt after Pearl Harbor.
This is my great great great grandpa

GERMAN ENGINEERING BEST IN WORLD ALWAYS
I have studied the 9th SS Division but didn't realise they confronted the Americans at Omaha, I thought that was the 352nd Division. The 9th SS Panzer division, along with the vast bulk of quality Panzer Divisions, faced the British and Canadians. The 9th didn't arrive in the area until 20th June 1944 and was involved in the brutal fighting around the city of Caen and perhaps most notably the bloody combat to seize and hold the critically important heights along Hill 112. So they can't have faced the Americans at Omaha on D-Day?? D-Day deaths were 2,501 for the Americans, 1960 British, 370 Canadians. Sword was the 2nd most difficult sector. No credit given to the 2 British divisions who faced 21st Panzer Division on D-Day?
Thank you. Excellent presentation and much enjoyed.
The most successful RAF fighter squadron was No303 a Polish squadron.
Hell of ride, Maud…
The British 50th Division were indeed originally a Territorial Division, but they were highly experienced by this time, and possibly considered Britain's best regular infantry division. At Normandy, General Horrocks said of them: - "I cannot give you higher praise than by saying that the most experienced battle fighting Division in the British Army has once more lived up to its high reputation." He was speaking of the 50th, and indeed it was to be the most highly-decorated British division in WW2.
Great stuff, but the constant sound buzzer is horrible
Interior details would be nice. Thanks for showing.

I had the rare privilege of seeing a Bob Hope at Anderson AFB, Guam Island, back 1959. I was only 5 years old, but I was laughing with the thunderous laughing and applause of everyone who attended. Bob Hope lives forever, his comedy is one-of-a-kind. He truly loved the military of all branches. 😂😂😂
Its probably good for Americans to hear about what is was like in Europe at that time. After all, they can hardly have stories about the war in the USA, can they? The USA was 3,000 miles + from the nearest enemy.
This is one ten year old lecture that unfortunately DID age well…
Love Joshua Levine. Watch world war ll numbers. He and Guy Walters are the best. They both tell great stories.
